A Leesburg man on probation for drug possession was arrested after police caught him driving without a license in Fruitland Park.

Police observed 50-year-old Curtis Ray Jacobs driving a black Mazda pickup truck while not wearing a seatbelt on U.S. Highway 27/441 at around 4:49 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. A check on the license plate revealed that the registered owner did not possess a driver’s license.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and spoke with Jacobs, who admitted he was the registered owner and did not possess a driver’s license. He said he was coming home from the hospital, the report said.

A criminal history check revealed that Jacobs was previously arrested for driving without a license in June 2022. It also showed that he’s on felony offender probation for possession of methamphetamine starting in July 2022, according to the report.

The North Carolina native was charged with driving without a license (never had one) and violating his probation. He was taken to the Lake County Jail with bond set at $500. A court appearance was set for 8 a.m. Aug. 1 at the Lake County Courthouse.
