Ernest Lamar Willis, age 84, of Fruitland Park, Florida, went to his eternal home on Monday, May 1, 2023. Ernest was born on October 20, 1938 in Omega, Georgia to Gilbert and Lois Willis.
He was a beloved husband to Winnie Jean Willis for 62 years. He was an amazing father to Debby Reichard (Vaughn) and David Willis. He was a devoted grandfather to Christy Mauriell (Brent), Stephen Reichard (Meghan), Brittany Collins (Cameron), David E. Willis (Toni) and Austin Willis. He was a loving great-grandfather to Nolan, Brooklyn, Stephanie, Nathan, Christian, Lily, Asher and Blakely. He is also survived by his sisters, Glenda Mann and Donna Asbury. He was preceded in death by his father Gilbert and mother Lois, and his brothers Herbert Willis and Paul Willis. He loved his family unconditionally and he always loved spending time with them. He is adored by all of his family.
Ernest served in the United States Air Force for four years. He obtained his barber’s license and went on to be the Supervisor of the City of Leesburg Recreation and Parks Department and Athletic Fields, where he retired after 28 years.
He was known by all for his hearty and infectious laugh. Laughing and talking with family and friends was one of his most favorite things to do. He also enjoyed giving haircuts to his family members. He loved spending time in the North Carolina Mountains, playing and watching golf and eating out at restaurants. He was a sweet, kind and gentle man that was happy all the time! He was loved by everyone.
Services will be Monday, May 8 at Grace Bible Baptist Church, 1703 Lewis Road, Leesburg, FL 34748. The viewing will be at 10:00 am with the service beginning at 11:00 am. The graveside service will follow at 12:30 pm at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1901 County Road 25A, Leesburg, FL 34748.
