A Leesburg man ended up being tased and arrested after he tried to stop police from handcuffing his brother.

An officer responded to an unknown situation on 2003 South Street at around 7:58 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

Upon his arrival at the scene, the officer observed two other officers with a man detained in handcuffs. The man was in an irate state and was bleeding from his right wrist. An evaluation was conducted on the man, and Lake EMS was contacted to treat his injuries, the report said.

Then the man’s brother, 28-year-old Jamson Livince Lauvince, arrived at the scene. He began to yell at the officers and demanded they release his brother from handcuffs. The officers instead told him the reason his brother was in handcuffs and that Lake EMS were attempting to treat his injuries, according to the report.

To allow treatment for the injuries, one of the officers tried to remove the handcuffs from Lauvince’s brother, but he became irate again. During this time, Lauvince approached the officer and his brother in an attempt to deescalate the situation, the report said.

The other officer continued to try to remove the handcuffs and asked the man to sit down on Lake EMS’s gurney, the report said. Lauvince then became irate with the officer, grabbed his wrist, and applied pressure as he tried to remove his grip on his brother.

The officer swatted Lauvince away and stated, “do not touch me.” Another officer inserted himself in front of Lauvince and told him to back up multiple times, but Lauvince clenched both fists, yelled at him and moved forward toward him instead, the report said.

Due to Lauvince grabbing an officer’s wrist to remove his grip, he was informed that he was being placed under arrest. Officers attempted to handcuff him, too, but he tensed his arms and pulled away from their grip, the report said.

Lauvince was put on the ground as he continued to kick and push away from the officers, the report said. Because he refused to place his hands behind his back and kept pushing away, one of the officers engaged his taser on Lauvince’s lower back. He was then placed in handcuffs.

Lauvince was subsequently arrested on charges of resisting arrest with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer. He was transported to the Lake County Jail with bond set at $10,000.
