Driver of BMW killed after colliding with semi on Florida Turnpike in Lake County

The driver of a BMW was killed after colliding with a semi Friday night on the Florida Turnpike in Lake County.

The 44-year-old Delray Beach man was at the wheel of a 2017 BMW X3 traveling southbound at 9:53 p.m. near Mile Marker 276 when he made an improper lane change into the path of a semi driven by a 47-year-old Orlando man, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The BMW struck the front left side of the semi and the BMW driver overcorrected. He hit a concrete construction barrier and then re-entered the path of the semi. When the BMW began to overturn, the driver was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers in the BMW, a 39-year-old Delray Beach woman and an 8-year-old boy, suffered minor injuries and were treated at South Lake Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
