A Fruitland Park man was charged with driving under the influence after he was found sitting in a parked vehicle with the engine running.
Shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday, a Leesburg police officer responded to a report of possible DUI near 1302 S 14th St., which is the address for Steve’s Package and Lounge. The officer observed a white Jeep parked on the east side of the building with a man sitting in the driver’s seat with the engine running and the vehicle in park, according to the police report.
The driver identified himself as 25-year-old Brian Edward Marski. The officer detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on Marski’s breath when he spoke. He also had bloodshot watery eyes and slurred speech, the report said.
The officer asked Marski to shut off the vehicle and hand over the keys, which he did. Marski then failed a series of field sobriety exercises and the officer determined he was under the influence alcohol. He was placed under arrested and taken to the Leesburg Police Department. At the police station, Marski provided two breath samples that registered 0.139 and 0.135, according to the report.
As a result, the New Jersey native was charged with a first offense DUI. He was transported to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
