A Lake County man was arrested allegedly slapping his mother.

Leesburg police officers were dispatched March 5 to the Little Turtle Apartments in the 1300 block of Pamela Street on in reference to a 911 hangup.

The Leesburg Police dispatch had received the call and heard a scream before the line was disconnected. Dispatch told the responding officer that they had calls at other times from a female who used that number.

When the officer arrived at the apartment complex a resident told them to check on the residents of apartment 18. When the officer did so he met the woman who had made the 911 call. She told the officer that she was fixing her granddaughter’s hair and that her son, 36-year-old Kenneth C. Willis, was in the apartment while she fixed the child’s hair. She said that Willis began mumbling and speaking incoherently, according to the arrest report. He came to the kitchen table where his mother was working on the four-year-old’s hair and hit his mother on her mouth with an open palm. She told Willis that she was going to call the police. Willis fled the apartment before the officer arrived.

The New York native was arrested Tuesday after he was tasered and taken into custody by Fruitland Park police. When he was booked at the Lake County Jail, he was served with the warrant charging him felony battery in the alleged attack on his mother. He continued to be held this weekend on $11,000 bond.
