John Henry Upwood of Grand Island, FL, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023. He was born on December 3, 1947, to his parents William and Clara Upwood. John was originally from Detroit, Michigan but he and his family moved to Saint Louis Park, Minnesota when he was a teenager. There he met and married his high school sweetheart Sharon (Schieber), at the Good Shepherd Church in Minnesota.
A highly respected insurance professional for most of his career, he worked his way up to become the Assistant Vice President of Claims for Seneca Insurance Company in New York, NY. On December 31, 2013, he retired from Seneca, and he and Sharon relocated to the central Florida area the following summer.
John enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also loved to cruise and travel, especially to his favorite destination – Hawaii. John’s hobbies included photography, electronics and reading.
John is predeceased in death by his son Scott Thomas Upwood, parents William and Clara Upwood, brother William J Upwood II, and sister Marie Riegel.
John is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Sharon Upwood; children John (Karin) Upwood Jr. of St. Louis, MO; daughters Tracey (Douglas) Marzigliano of Lakeland, FL, and Cheryl (Gregory “Allen”) Price of Ocala, FL; brother Frank (Jackie) Upwood of Central Square, NY, sister-in-law Cathy Upwood of Syracuse, NY; his five dearly beloved grandchildren Haley, Matthew, Samuel, Lenore, and Madison; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
