An argument with his girlfriend early Sunday morning led to a Leesburg man’s drunk driving arrest.

A Leesburg police officer was on traffic patrol when he saw a four-door Mercury car stopped at a red light at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 441 and College Drive. The car then moved across the intersection while the light was still red. The officer put on his emergency lights and stopped the car.

He made contact with 31-year-old Kendrick Cordell Tyree Jones. Jones apologized for running the light and told the officer he had got into an argument with his girlfriend at the nearby Waffle House and was trying to get away from her, according to the police report.

Jones was slurring his words and his eyes were glossy. He told the officer that he had not had anything to drink in the last two hours. Jones agreed to take part in standardized field sobriety exercises, but he performed poorly. He was placed under arrest on a charge of driving under the influence. At the Leesburg Police Station he gave two breath samples which indicated a blood alcohol level on the first sample of . 199 and .188 on the second sample. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
