A Leesburg woman who was wanted on an arrest warrant was wrangled into custody after allegedly assaulting a female Leesburg police officer.

The officer was on patrol Oct. 3 in the 1100 block of Tuskegee Street when she spotted 31-year-old Chachina Breanna Mitchell walking, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

The officer had been informed earlier on her shift that Mitchell was wanted on a Polk County warrant. The officer recognized Mitchell from previous interactions and knew that the Florida native becomes “irate very quickly,” the report said. When the officer spotted Mitchell and asked her to stop walking, Mitchell sped up.

The officer exited her vehicle and grabbed Mitchell’s arm. Mitchell pulled away from the officer and when told to stop resisting, swung her left fist at the officer who was able to duck. Mitchell, who is much larger than the officer, continued to swing at the officer. The officer threatened to deploy her taser.

“I do not want to tase you,” the officer warned.

Mitchell continued to walk away from the officer, who then used her electronic control device. The first two cartridges missed, but the officer was able to fire an additional cartridge which landed two barbs in Mitchell’s right arm. The 240-pound Mitchell appeared to be unfazed by the barbs.

The officer was finally able to grab Mitchell’s arm, but she was still resisting when the officer was joined by a friend of Mitchell’s who helped calm her down so that she finally complied with the officer’s commands.

Mitchell was taken to the Lake County Jail where she was booked for assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. She was released after posting $3,000 bond.
