A Leesburg woman was arrested after she reportedly signed a rental agreement for a computer and made just one payment before stopping all communications with the store.

An employee of the Rent A Center in Eustis told a Eustis police officer on April 2 that 33-year-old Frances Lee Daniels, of 2922 Pecan Ave., came into the store, located at 419 Plaza Ave., on Jan. 14 and entered a rental agreement for an Aio HP desktop computer for a total amount of $944.02. The employee said the actual value of the computer is $492.86, according to the police report.

The employee said Daniels agreed to make weekly payments of $22.37 for the computer but made only one payment of $23.93 on Jan. 14, leaving her owing $944.02. She said store employees have tried numerous times to contact Daniels by phone and they sent a registered letter to her residence on March 8. The letter was returned not signed. The Rent A Center employee completed a sworn written statement and said she wanted to press charges for the value of the computer ($492.86), the report said.

An arrest warrant was issued and Daniels was charged Monday with petit theft and failure to return hired or leased property. She was released from the Lake County Jail the next day on $2,500 bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 8:30 a.m. May 16.
