A Leesburg lawn care worker was arrested after crashing his pickup truck into a tree.

Cameron Mitchell Smith, 29, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence Wednesday night after he crashed his truck near the El Marie Pizzeria and Sub Shoppe in Eustis. The truck had crashed into a tree which as “nearly out of the ground,” according to an arrest report from the Eustis Police Department.

Smith blamed the crash on his “bald tires” and the wet roadway. He admitted he’d consumed “two beers.”

Smith, who was arrested in 2018 with marijuana, struggled through field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .233 and .229 blood alcohol content. He was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and booked at the Lake County Jail. Bond was set at $2,000.
