A Leesburg man driving a Mercedes with darkly tinted windows was arrested after a traffic stop revealed he was in possession of an illicit drug.
The traffic stop occurred in the wee hours of Thursday morning when a Lake County sheriff’s deputy saw the silver Mercedes with tinted windows traveling west on Veech Road in Leesburg.
The deputy conducted a traffic stop at County Road 468 and West Main Street. The Mercedes driver gave the deputy his license which identified him as 27-year-old Robert Edward Morrison. Morrison was stopped in what the deputy’s report described as “a high drug area.” The deputy also described Morrison as being “very nervous.” The deputy called on the Leesburg K-9 officer to perform an open air sniff test on the Mercedes. The dog alerted on the driver’s door. When the deputy searched the car he found a folded piece of wax paper which contained a substance which tested positive as oxycodone.
Morrison was issued a warning for the tinted window violation and was arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. He was booked at the Lake County Jail with bond set at $2,000.
