A Leesburg man who is in custody for a series of burglaries and thefts has been charged with two burglaries of the Lake Montessori school on Lee Street in Leesburg.
The burglaries occurred in October, one week apart.
School personnel reviewed security video of the burglaries and were sure that the same man broke into the school both times. The identity of the suspect was not known at that time.
A Leesburg Police Department detective was assigned to the case and after reviewing the videos, he recognized the burglary suspect as 31-year-old Alex Winston Upshaw.
Upshaw is also facing a number of burglary and theft charges including the burglary of St. Paul’s Catholic School.
Upshaw has four prior theft convictions and continues to be held at the Lake County Jail. Bond has been set at $60,000.
