Lake County Animal Shelter partners with non-profit to offer fee waived pet adoptions for veterans

As Veterans Day approaches, the Lake County Animal Shelter is proud to offer fee waived pet adoptions for veterans starting Nov. 12. This promotion is made possible by a donation from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mary Ellen Robertson Chapter.

“We are honored to accept this donation from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. This will benefit both our local veterans and our homeless pets,” said Whitney Boylston, Lake County Animal Shelter director.

In partnership with the Lake County Animal Shelter, the non-profit is again sponsoring a “Companion Pets for our Vets” project that will provide pet adoption assistance to current and former military vets.

“Pets have been shown to be psychologically, emotionally and physically beneficial to their humans,” said Cathy Trout, Service to Veterans chair for the Mary Ellen Robertson Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Leesburg. “Caring for a pet can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment, and lessen feelings of loneliness. We hope this project will enrich the lives of our military veterans and their families, and find loving forever homes for homeless pets.”
