George Edwin Hirschinger

George Edwin “Ed” Hirschinger (94) of Leesburg, FL passed away on October 27, 2021 at the South Lake Hospital in Clermont, FL. He was born May 29, 1927 in New Castle, IN.

Ed is survived by his dear wife of 71 years, Marjorie (Relander) Hirschinger; his children, Marcia A. Soder, DDS (Neal) of Brownsburg, IN and Thomas L. Hirschinger (Susan) of Orleans, IN. He was also blessed with grandchildren Katelyn Lucas (Paul) of Brownsburg, IN, Brooke V. Freire (Rodrigo) of Chicago, IL and David A. Soder of Brownsburg, IN. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews including: JC, John and Jerry Hirschinger, Lisa Varella, Scott Hirschinger, JR Rohrman, Rhonda (Isbell) Rohrman, Randal L. Rohrman, Shelly Rohrman and Rick Rohrman. He was preceded in death by his parents, George J. and Adelaide (Meyer) Hirschinger, his brothers James A. Hirschinger and Lyle L. Hirschinger and his sister-in-law Shirley E. Relander of Lafayette, IN..

Ed was a graduate of Anderson High School in Anderson, IN and attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. He served the nation in the Army during WWII, serving in Europe with the 3rd Armored, 3rd Division. He received the Victory Medal/Army of Occupation/Germany. Before the military he worked at Western Union and afterward worked on the safety team at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. His career skills led him to be a custom furniture builder for the Tippecanoe Upholstering Co. Ed enjoyed troubleshooting problems. He also liked fishing, hunting, flying radio-controlled airplanes and Bingo.

He will be laid to rest with Army honors at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
