A Player’s Club employee was arrested after allegedly stealing from the business which offers an arcade and fish games.

Tonya Romero, 33, of Okahumpka, was arrested at 7:56 p.m. Sunday for taking more than $3,000 from the cash register at the Player’s Club at 25010 U.S. Hwy. 27 in Leesburg.

When questioned by police, Romero acknowledged taking the cash but claimed a male friend coerced her into doing it, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Romero told police she refused the man’s demands twice — once over the phone and once again in person outside the club — but finally relented when he threatened to take the money himself. She said she was worried because she believed he had “multiple guns.”

Police say there were two armed security guards working at the club that night and a lock on the door that prevented anyone from entering without being given access. Romero said she didn’t call 911 or alert the guards because she didn’t want the man to get in trouble.

Romero was booked on a third degree felony grand theft charge and is being held on $2,000 bail. Her court date is set for Aug. 16.
