A Leesburg man was arrested on multiple charges recently after he was accused of speeding on a motorcycle.
A Howey-in-the-Hills Police officer estimated the motorcycle, driven by 60-year-old Arthur Glendon MacAllister, was traveling at close to 100 mph in a 45-mph speed zone. The officer conducted a traffic stop and reported that MacAllister was “unsteady” and “staggering.” The officer reported smelling the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from MacAllister’s breath, as well as bloodshot and watery eyes, a police report states.
MacAllister told the officer he had been drinking at the Lake Harris Hideway in Tavares and had consumed “two shots and a beer.” When asked if that was all of the alcohol he had consumed, MacAllister said he had a beer and a shot somewhere else as well, the report says.
The officer asked MacAllister if he had any weapons and as he was reaching into his pocket, he said he had a knife. The officer had to tell him a couple of times to keep his hands out of his pocket and then placed him in handcuffs, the report says.
After struggling through field sobriety exercises, MacAllister was transported to the Lake County Jail, where he refused to provide a breath sample and sign a criminal citation. He was charged with driving under the influence, refusing to submit to a breath test, refusing to sign a citation and reckless driving. He was released on $1,000 bond and is due in court April 27 at 8 a.m., jail records show.
