A Leesburg woman was arrested on drug charges after being caught with methamphetamine during a traffic stop in Eustis early Monday.

Shortly after 3 a.m., a Eustis Police sergeant noticed a silver Chrysler traveling north on State Road 19 approaching County Road 452. The vehicle failed to stop prior to the clearly marked stop bar and came to a rest with its back wheels on the stop bar, according to the police report.

The sergeant initiated a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, 39-year-old Jacklyn Suzanne Hale, of 33600 Warren Ave. Hale gave permission to search the vehicle and an officer who arrived as backup found two cut straws in a silver purse in the backseat on the driver’s side. The passenger said the purse belonged to her. Nothing else was found during the search, the report said.

The sergeant spoke with Hale and asked if she had anything on her that she should be worried about. Hale stared at the sergeant and didn’t say anything. The sergeant asked if he needed to call a female officer to come search her, and she handed over a metal container that was a keychain, according to the report.

Inside the container was a small clear bag with a small clear bag with a crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. After being read her Miranda warning, Hale said she was given the meth by a friend in Bassville Park, Leesburg, but she wouldn’t provide a name. The methamphetamine weight about a gram, the report said.

Hale was charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription (methamphetamine) and possession of drug equipment. She was taken to the Lake County Jail, where she remained held Tuesday on $3,000 bond. Hale is due to appear in Lake County Court on May 10.
