An Indian Harbor Beach man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after crashing his car in Leesburg.

A police officer was dispatched early Sunday morning to the intersection of North 14th Street and William Street regarding an accident. A witness called 911 and reported that a car had gone over the curbing and was stuck in the grass near a pond.

When the officer arrived at the scene, he saw 33-year-old Matthew Randall Graham stumbling around the vehicle. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol on Graham’s breath. The officer had Graham sit down until EMS arrived to provide medical care.

While EMS was providing care, the medical personnel told the officer that Graham was intoxicated. He was taken to the UF Health-Leesburg hospital for treatment. While being transported Graham told the medics that he had consumed “a few beers” prior to crashing his car.

When the officer asked Graham to provide breath samples or blood or urine, he refused. A records check revealed that Graham had a previous conviction for refusing to provide a breath test during a DUI investigation.

Graham was charged with failing to drive in a designated lane and for refusing to submit to a breath test during a DUI investigation with a previous refusal. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
