A Leesburg man stopped for driving with tag light out was arrested after THC gummies were found in his truck.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, a Eustis police officer observed a green Toyota pickup traveling on West County Road 44 with no working tag lights. The officer conducted a traffic stop in front of Florida Foods Products, 2231 CR 44, and spoke with the driver, 34-year-old James Roderick Geldart, of 8442 Arbour Lake Drive in Leesburg.

Geldart told the officer he was coming home from Daytona Beach. The officer asked Geldart if there was anything illegal in his vehicle, such as guns, drugs or paraphernalia, and Geldart said there wasn’t. Geldart gave permission for a K-9 unit to sniff around the vehicle and the dog gave a positive response to the presence of narcotics, according to the police report.

The officer searched the vehicle and found a plastic jar labeled, “THC GMY,” which contained a yellow wax-like substance. The officer also found a glass pipe with residue. The substance and residue tested positive for high THC, the report said.

Geldart was charged with possession of a controlled substance (edible THC) and taken to the Lake County Jail, where he was released Sunday afternoon on $1,000 bond. He will answer to the charge in Lake County Court on Sept. 19.
