A nonfunctioning tail light led to the arrest of a Leesburg man with a long criminal history.

A Leesburg police officer at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday spotted a white Chevy Malibu with a nonfunctioning tail light going west bound on Griffin Road.

When the officer pulled over the Malibu, he made contact with the driver, 36-year-old Jonathan Patrick Lucas, who gave the officer a Florida identification card.

The officer requested a records check which revealed that Lucas has had 10 suspensions of his driver’s license since 2017. Lucas had also been convicted three times of driving while license suspended. The New York native has been arrested 11 times for drug, theft and battery as well as driving charges since 2017. He was charged with a third degree felony for driving with three or more convictions while license suspended.

He was transported to the Lake County Jail where bond was set at $5,000.
