A Leesburg man with a dozen prior felony convictions was arrested on drug, weapon and resisting charges after being picked up for trespassing at Wawa.

At around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, a Leesburg police officer was in the parking lot of the store, located at 1400 W. North Blvd., and saw a man he knew personally from several prior law enforcement contacts straddling a bicycle and talking to people in a car. When the man – later identified as Keith Bernard McCoy, 50, of 827 E. Magnolia St. – saw the officer, he started riding the bicycle south on North Boulevard, according to the police report.

The officer knew McCoy had been trespassed from the store once and arrested for trespassing at the store another time. After confirming the trespass was still active, the officer saw McCoy riding his bicycle in the 1300 block of North Boulevard and stopped him. When told he was being placed under arrest, McCoy became highly agitated and started shouting at the officer, the report said.

The officer grabbed McCoy’s arms to place him in handcuffs, but McCoy was able to pull away. The officer then pulled out his taser and told McCoy he would be tased if he didn’t comply. McCoy then placed his hands behind his back, but as the officer went to handcuff him, he started jerking and trying to pull away again. The officer was eventually able to secure McCoy in handcuffs, according to the report.

The officer searched McCoy and found a crack pipe in his front right pocket and a single round of .38-caliber Smith and Wesson ammunition in his front left pocket. A criminal background search showed McCoy has 12 prior felony convictions, the report said.

McCoy was arrested and charged with possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, trespassing after a warning, resisting arrest without violence, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He’s being held in the Lake County Jail on $13,000 bond and will appear in Lake County Court on Aug. 29.
