Cathy Carter Preston

Cathy Carter Preston, born February 2, 1950, to James A. Carter and Nell Deane “Deanie” Carter (Marshall) of Groveland, FL, passed peacefully on Saturday, April 9, 2022 in Tavares, FL. She was a graduate of Groveland High School’s class of 1968, and received her BA from Florida State University and her MA from the University of Central Florida.

Ms. Preston was a beloved teacher of English, working in the Lake County Public School system for 38 years. Cathy enjoyed traveling and was especially fond of Sanibel Island, FL, where her family has spent over 60 years vacationing and collecting seashells.

She is survived by her brother Jimmy Carter, his spouse Kathlenia, and their two children Jessica and Janae, as well as Jessica’s two sons Deacon and Dawson. She is also survived by her sister Candace “Candy” Ogden, her spouse Bruce, and their two children Justin and Carly, as well as Justin’s spouse Jeni and their daughter Taylor.

Cathy was an avid supporter of many charities throughout her life with St. Jude’s being most dear to her heart. In lieu of a service, Ms. Preston has requested donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital on her behalf.
