A Lifestream Behavioral Center staffer has been jailed in an alleged attack on a patient with a brain injury who ran naked in the facility in Leesburg.

Troy Edward Stringer, 28, of Leesburg, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant charging him with abuse of an elderly or disabled adult. It is a third-degree felony charge.

The attack occurred July 20 when the patient was “struck multiple times” which resulted in “bruising to the patient’s left eye.” The patient, who was suffering mental health issues due to a traumatic brain injury, “took off his clothes and ran around nude,” according to an affidavit of probable cause. Several behavioral technicians intervened to try to calm the situation, including Stringer.

Initially, Stringer walked away from the situation, but returned a few minutes later and entered the patient’s room. Video showed Stringer entering and exiting the patient’s room, but there was no video in the room. The patient was transported to UF Health-Leesburg Hospital for treatment, which included a CT scan.

Photos of the patient’s injuries were taken and the investigation worked its way up the chain of command at Lifestream. The investigation resulted in Stringer’s termination.

Stringer was booked at the Lake County Jail on $5,000 bond.
