Leesburg teen arrested for stealing car and gun

A Leesburg teen has been arrested after stealing a Kia automobile and a .380-caliber handgun.

Leesburg police officers responded Wednesday night to a 911 call reporting car burglaries in the 1400 block of Old Harbor Boulevard. After a foot chase, four teenagers were caught. All four youths were placed under arrest for loitering and prowling.

A 15-year-old male was found to have a backpack which contained several keys. One key was for a red Kia Forte. The police contacted the registered owner who was not aware the car had been taken. The owner gave the police permission to search the car. The police found a cell phone next to a Cobra .380-caliber pistol. The officer who found the handgun went back to the Police Department where the minors were being processed and talked to the 15-year-old who said the phone was his. Another one of the teens told the officer that the 15-year-old was bragging that the stolen gun was his.

The 15-year-old has been charged with stealing the car and handgun. He was turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
