A Leesburg woman’s security camera captured a man smashing her car’s trunk as it was parked in the driveway of her home.

The woman discovered the damage to her car in September and called the Lake County Sheriff’s Office to report the crime.

She said she had gone to bed around 10 p.m. and she heard someone yelling sometime after midnight. She did not go outside.

The next day she checked her security camera and video showed a white male approaching her 2015 Chevy Impala and repeatedly pounding on the trunk. Damage was estimated at about $1,800.

The woman gave the deputy a copy of the security camera footage.

In the same neighborhood, another deputy had been dispatched to investigate reports of a man acting strangely. He detained 28-year-old Nicholas Ryan Reed after seeing him pounding on a car. The  deputy had to use a taser him in order to take him into custody. Given his erratic behavior, Reed was transported to a hospital for treatment.

What Reed was wearing matched what was worn by the man in the woman’s video.

Based on the video and the reports from both deputies, a detective obtained an arrest warrant for Reed. He was taken into custody on Thursday afternoon on two felony counts of criminal mischief. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $4,000 bond.
