A Leesburg man was arrested after allegedly smashing the windshield of his girlfriend’s car while it was parked at a local drinking establishment.

Travis Patten, 23, was arrested Thursday on two counts of criminal mischief.

He and his girlfriend had been out the previous night when Patten became “extremely intoxicated,” according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The girlfriend left Patten and went with a friend to the Copperhead Lodge Saloon on U.S. Hwy. 441 Leesburg. When she left the bar she discovered the damage to her car.

The next day the Lake County sheriff’s deputy investigating the damage to the car received a call from a Fruitland Park police officer who had arrested Patten for damaging another car, this one belonging to his girlfriend’s friend.

Patten gave a statement admitting to slashing the tires of the car of the friend who had accompanied his girlfriend to the bar. He told the officer that he had damaged the friend’s car in retaliation for the argument which had happened earlier that day. He also admitted that he had damaged his girlfriend’s car.

He was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $1,500 bond.
