A drunk driving suspect was arrested early Thursday morning by Leesburg police on a charge of driving under the influence.

A blue Saturn driven by 40-year-old Clifford Wilkins of Fruitland Park nearly struck the rear of another vehicle at a stop sign at Perkins Street and Sunshine Avenue, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. It appeared the Michigan native who provided police with a Tennessee driver’s license, had been drinking. He struggled through initial field sobriety exercises and then refused to complete them. He also refused to provide a breath sample.

A check revealed he has a suspended Florida driver’s license. In addition to being charged with driving under the influence, he was charged with driving on an out-of-state driver’s license while his Florida driving privileges had been suspended.

He was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail where bond was set at $2,000.
