A Leesburg man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence late Sunday night.

A Leesburg police officer was on patrol on 14th Street when he observed a white Ford Focus having some difficulty staying in its lane, according to the arrest report. The officer followed the Ford for a short distance and when the vehicle crossed the white fog line toward the sidewalk, the officer began filming the vehicle. After observing the vehicle weaving in the lane, he engaged his flashing lights and stopped the Ford.

When the officer began to speak to the driver, identified as 35-year-old Aaron Christopher Willey, the officer could detect the strong odor of alcohol.

Willey’s eyes appeared glassy and bloodshot. When asked if he had been drinking, Willey admitted to having three shots four hours before the stop.

The officer also noted that Willey’s voice was slurred and his gait was staggered when he got out of his car. He agreed to participate in field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was transported to the Leesburg Police Department where he provided breath samples which registered .29 and .30 blood alcohol content, substantially over the .08 limit.

Willey had been convicted of driving under the influence in Orange County in 2009.

Willey was booked at the Lake County Jail where bond was set at $2,000.
