A Lake County school bus driver has entered a plea to charges of inappropriate touching of little girls on his route.

William Wassey, 70, of Mount Dora, pleaded not guilty this past week in Lake County Court to 16 counts of lewd or lascivious conduct.

He has been released on $30,000 bond and ordered to have no contact with his alleged victims. He was arrested on a warrant last week in Orange County.

Video from the bus appeared to show Wassey on May 27 and 28 calling two girls, ages 9 and 10, to the front of the bus where he would begin “rubbing” them, according to an affidavit of probable cause. In one case, he “placed his right hand between her legs touching her crotch area,” the document said. The girls were interviewed June 4 at the Child Advocacy Center in Leesburg. Those interviews prompted a detective on July 21 to begin reviewing the video footage from School Bus No. 7506.

Williams denied he had done anything wrong. He has since resigned from his bus driving job “because of his health.”
