A Leesburg man was arrested after allegedly firing a gun during a dispute with his neighbor over their dogs.

Cory Daniel, 40, who lives at 9912 N. Emeralda Island Road, was arrested Friday night on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and making a threat against a law enforcement officer.

A neighbor said that Daniel’s dog had gotten into his yard and tried to attack his dog, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The man yelled at Daniel to come and get his dog. When Daniel did not respond, the neighbor lifted the dog over a fence and put it back in Daniel’s yard.

Daniel emerged from his home and “fired several gun shots.”

Deputies responded to the location, where Daniel had closed a front gate. Deputies climbed over the gate and Daniel stepped outside still holding the gun. He did not put down the gun when he was ordered to do so by deputies. He threatened deputies, indicating he was ready to have an “armed standoff.” Eventually, he put down the gun and began communicating with deputies.

It appeared Daniel had been drinking and he denied firing the gun.

His wife turned over the weapon, which was identified as as FNX-45 tactical handgun.

Daniel was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $16,000 bond.
