Suspect in stolen boots arrested in alleged heist at Walmart

A suspect wearing stolen boots was arrested in the alleged theft of merchandise from the Walmart store in Leesburg.

Jonathan Russell Peabody, 30, of Leesburg, was spotted wearing stolen work boots and carrying a garbage can full of merchandise out of the store on Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. He got onto a bicycle and fled. Items taken from the store were identified as a 13-gallon garbage can, a six-pack of Reebok socks, a pair of Levi’s jeans, sunglasses, mosquito repellant, bicycle tire tubes, boxer briefs and a container of popcorn chicken, the report said.

Officers located Peabody at Silver Pointe Circle and Thomas Avenue and took him into custody on a felony charge of retail theft. The Cherry Point, N.C. native has a previous theft conviction in Michigan as well as here in Florida. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $2,500 bond.
