A Leesburg woman with a history of driving with a suspended license was charged with it again after failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign and nearly colliding with a police car.

A Leesburg Police officer was traveling north on Susan Street on Sunday afternoon when a brown Buick 4-door sedan heading east on Birchwood Circle failed to come to a complete stop at the sign. The officer had to apply the brakes and pull to the right to avoid a collision, according to the police report.

The officer conducted a traffic stop on William Street at the intersection of Pamela Street. The driver – Alicia Latray Wesley, 41, of 2120 Alabama Ave. – told the officer she did not have a valid license and provided a Florida identification card, the report said.

A computer review of Wesley’s driving record showed a 60-month revocation for being a habitual traffic offender as well as nine prior convictions for driving with a suspended license, according to the report.

Wesley was charged with driving with a suspended license (habitual offender). She was booked at the Leesburg Police station and taken to the Lake County Jail, where she was released later that afternoon on $5,000 bond. Wesley will appear in Lake County Court on June 21.
