William Douglas “Bill” Hale passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021 at the age of 88 years.
Bill was born in Mobile, Alabama. Bill worked for Chilton’s Inc. in Mobile where he was very well known for his talent of restoring photos and picture frames. He restored one of the few famous photos of George Washington. He volunteered with the Junior Miss Pageant, now know as Distinguished Young Women, for 25 years and traveled all over the United States assisting. He also volunteered with the Mobile Azalea Trail, which had its beginnings in 1929, when the Mobile Junior Chamber of Commerce undertook a project to encourage citizens to plant azaleas along the Port City’s thoroughfares.
After moving to Leesburg, he laid out and created a large map of the City of Leesburg that currently hangs in the library. Bill also liked collecting model trains and model cars. He was an active member of the Lake Saunders Baptist Church in Tavares.
Bill is remembered and will be dearly missed by his wife of 8 years, Rosalyn. Bill was the love of Rosalyn’s life and the kindest man she ever knew. He is also survived by his daughters Cathy (Alan) Holden of Eustis and Karyn (Rick) Norris of San Antonio, Texas; and two nieces, Jamie and Julie of Mobile.
A memorial ceremony will be held soon at the Lake Saunders Baptist Church.
