David William Burnsed, M.D., 78, of Leesburg, FL died Thursday, April 1, 2021 in Leesburg.

David was born in Jacksonville, FL to James Dewey Burnsed and Marie Rowe Burnsed and grew up in Glen Saint Mary, FL. After graduating valedictorian from Baker County High School, he received a Bachelors of Science in Physics from University of Florida, where he also pursued his medical degree. After graduating from medical school, David completed a surgical internship at the University of Kentucky Medical Center Lexington. In 1968 he joined the U.S. Air Force as a member of the Medical Corps and a flight surgeon stationed at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. In July 1971 he began his surgical residency at the University of Arkansas where he served as Chief Resident three years later.

After completing his residency in 1975, he moved to Leesburg to start a surgical practice and join the medical staff of Leesburg Regional Medical Center (LRMC), a position he held for over 46 years. David became a fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1978. He held a variety of positions at LRMC to include Secretary, Vice Chairman, and Chairman of the medical staff, as well as a member of the LRMC Board of Directors for 13 years. David was an accomplished artist and classical pianist.

David was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dewey Burnsed. He is survived by his wife of 49 ½ years, Nan North Burnsed; sisters Irma Green and Jeanette (Ed) Brown; sister-in-law Lynn Reeves; son Benjamin (Ashley) Burnsed of Conway, Arkansas; daughter Anne (Thomas) Pellerin of Saint Germain en Laye, France; grandchildren Ian, Luke, Jacob, Arthur, Annabelle, and Owen.

A Memorial Service will be held at Morrison Methodist Church, 1005 W. Main St., Leesburg on Saturday, April 10 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Forward Paths, P.O. Box 492109, Leesburg, Florida 34749.
