Firefighters from three local departments battle blaze in Leesburg residence

Firefighters from three local fire departments battled a residential structure fire early Saturday morning that destroyed a small home in Leesburg.

Crews from Leesburg, Fruitland Park and Lake County Fire Rescue battled a blaze early Saturday morning at a residence off Lucas Street.

Leesburg firefighters received the call for help at about 6 a.m. and when they arrived, they confirmed the residence off Lucas Street was on fire. Initially, firefighters believed the structure was fully involved in flames because of the long setback and difficulty seeing the home but they soon discovered that it was only 40 percent involved in flames, a report states.

The crew from Engine 61 stretched a hose line to the front door, forced entry and made an interior attack. They performed a search off the structure after knocking down the flames and firefighters from Fruitland Park Engine 56 and Lake County Fire Rescue Engine 59 handled overhaul and mop-up duties, the report says.

There were no injuries and the state fire marshal was called in to investigate the cause of the blaze.
