Webster man dies at scene of crash after losing control of pickup truck

A Webster man was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash Monday morning in Sumter County after losing control of a pickup truck.

Robert James Smith, 46, had been driving a 2016 Ford F-250 at 10:07 a.m. on State Road 50 a little more than one mile east of County Road 711 when he lost control of the truck and it collided with several trees and brush, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

He had been wearing a seatbelt, the report noted.
