Mom calls for help after video of daughter using restroom posted on social media

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called for help Thursday after a mother claimed someone had posted a video on social media of her daughter using the restroom at Lake Weir Middle School.

The woman said her daughter was using the restroom when another juvenile put her cell phone above the stall door, took a video and then posted it on Snapchat. The woman said she called the school and was told by officials that “this was taken care of,” a sheriff’s office report states.

The deputy then spoke with the juvenile victim, who said she told the other girl multiple times to stop recording her, but she continued to do so. The victim told the deputy there was no nudity in the video. And her mother said she told school officials that she didn’t want to pursue charges against the juvenile who took the video, the report says.

As of early Friday morning, the deputy wrote that he hadn’t seen the video nor spoken with the juvenile who shot it. He notified the sheriff’s office’s Juvenile Unit and the sector sergeant of the issue and closed the case “due to lack of prosecution by the victim,” the report says.
