Lake County sheriff seeks driver who slammed into business and broke waterline

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is asking for assistance in nabbing a driver who caused several thousand dollars in damage to a Tavares business earlier this month.

Sheriff’s officials say on Aug. 4 at about 11 p.m. at full-sized SUV pulled into the parking lot of PowerOne, at 15925 Old U.S. Hwy. 411 in Tavares, and parked for several minutes. Occupants of the vehicle vomited in the parking lot and five minutes later, the driver attempted to leave.

In the process, sheriff’s officials say, the driver backed into the building and broke a waterline, which caused several thousands of dollars in damage.

Sheriff’s officials made attempts to enhance the video shown above to obtain the vehicle’s license number but have not been successful. And none of PowerOne’s surveillance camera views can make out any of the vehicle’s occupants.

Anyone with information on the vehicle, its occupants or the driver is asked to contact Sgt. Jeff DeSantis at (352) 343-9481 or jeff.desantis@lcso.org. Those wishing to make anonymous tips can contact Central Florida Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477) or crimeline.org to be eligible for a reward.
