Criminal probe possible after man injured in Fruitland Park crash

One man was injured early Wednesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash when his Honda SUV rolled over on Picciola Road in Fruitland Park.

The man’s name is being withheld pending a possible criminal investigation. He had to be removed from the heavily damaged vehicle by firefighters from Fruitland Park and Leesburg and was then transported to a local hospital by a Lake EMS ambulance.

Details from the crash, or how many people were in the vehicle, haven’t yet been released but it appeared that the SUV was heading toward U.S. 27/441 on Picciola Road when the driver apparently lost control and overturned.

Firefighters from Leesburg and Fruitland Park responded to an early afternoon crash on Picciola Road on Wednesday that left one man injured.

Dirt was on the roadway several yards away from the crash scene, where it appeared the wheels of the SUV left the pavement before it crossed back over both lanes and flipped onto its side at the intersection of Riverview Drive, just across from the Life Church Assembly of God at 4001 Picciola Rd.

Debris from inside the vehicle was scattered onto the roadway and the nearby grassy shoulder. The driver was secured to a backboard and remained inside the ambulance for several minutes before it departed for a local hospital that wasn’t identified.
