Leesburg police officers arrested a woman Thursday night after a man with a ripped shirt said she threw a wooden shelf loaded with video games at him.
The man told officers that he was attempting to leave an apartment on Sandy Oaks Circle when 28-year-old Jessica J. Malz grabbed ahold of his shirt and pulled it. He said he wanted to leave following a prior disturbance but couldn’t get out of the bedroom because Malz blocked the door, a Leesburg Police report states.
The man said Malz was “extremely upset and began throwing things around the room.” He said she threw a small wooden shelf holding video games at him, which struck his left arm, the report says, adding that Malz grabbed his shirt and tried to keep him from leaving.
Malz was “visibly” upset when she spoke with officers, who also had been at the apartment earlier Thursday regarding a different issue. And she admitted that she had grabbed the man’s shirt to try to keep him from leaving, the report says.
Malz was taken into custody, transported to the Lake County Jail early Friday morning and charged with battery. She was released later that afternoon on $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in a Lake County courtroom Sept. 12 at 8 a.m. to answer to the charge.
