A Clermont man was arrested in connection with two theft incidents involving $941 in goods stolen from Walmart.

A deputy responded to Walmart, located at 550 U.S. Hwy. 27, Clermont, for a theft incident around 6 p.m. June 29, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Asset protection advised that 22-year-old Christopher Emmanuel Ortiz had stolen from the store on June 21 and again that day.

Surveillance footage from June 21 showed Ortiz walking out of the store with $549.94 in stolen goods. A second video from Monday showed he had done the same with $391.88 in stolen goods. When asked about these incidents, he stated he was low on funds and had been reselling the merchandise below retail value on Facebook Marketplace, the report said.

Ortiz was arrested on two counts of retail theft and booked at the Lake County South District Jail. The New York native was released after posting $1,000 bond.
