A Clermont man will appear in court for a used straw and marijuana found in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
An officer observed 26-year-old William John Calderon using his phone while driving a white Honda westbound on State Road 50 at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, according to a case report from the Groveland Police Department.
After stopping him at East Myers Boulevard and American Legion Road, the officer asked Calderon for his ID. He then noticed the smell of raw marijuana and asked if there was such a substance in the vehicle. Calderon would not confirm or deny, but he admitted to smoking marijuana in the vehicle before, the report said.
A search of the vehicle revealed an orange straw in the driver’s door panel pocket. Inside the straw were black markings and a white powder, suspected to be methamphetamine. Under the driver’s seat was a multicolored container with “420” on the top. Inside was suspected marijuana, the report said.
Tests of the straw and the leafy green substance came back positive for methamphetamine and marijuana, respectively. The latter weighed 4.52 grams, the report said.
Calderon was issued a notice to appear for possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana (less than 20 grams). He is due in court on July 15.
