A resident of The Plantation was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence at a Publix in Leesburg.

Officers responded to the Publix at Lake Harris to check on 60-year-old Dana Rene Klontz around 5 p.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. She was sitting in her gold vehicle, parked on top of a curb.

When speaking to her, she smelled of alcohol and was unable to hold a conversation. She would begin to answer, stop mid-sentence and have a blank stare on her face. Her eyes were also bloodshot and glossy, the report said.

Lake County Fire Rescue was called to the scene after Klontz mentioned shortness of breath and chest pain. Medical personnel asked her to step out of the vehicle so they could take her to UF Health Leesburg Hospital, and she quickly stumbled. She had to catch herself on the car door to keep from falling, the report said.

Klontz then swayed forward, holding onto the door once again. Medical personnel moved a gurney next to the driver’s door for her to sit on, and she stumbled and swayed as she tried to get on it. She eventually stepped close, leaned forward, and put her hands on the gurney to steady herself as she shuffled onto it, the report said.

Due to her condition, she was not able to perform field sobriety exercises. An officer instead followed her to the hospital and explained that she was under investigation for DUI. She refused to answer any questions or to provide a breath sample, the report said.

Klontz later stated she was told she could drive but had restrictions. She claimed to have applied for a hardship license. A check of her driving history determined her license had been suspended or revoked, the report said.

The Oklahoma native was arrested on charges of DUI, refusal to submit to DUI testing and driving while license suspended or revoked with knowledge. She was booked at the Lake County Jail without bond.

She was also arrested in 2025 after incriminating videos showed she had hit her boyfriend.
