A Leesburg woman was arrested for driving without a license after a stop sign violation in a U-Haul truck.

A deputy was patrolling Bassville Park in Leesburg when he observed 40-year-old Jessica Ann Morris roll a stop sign in a U-Haul truck at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, June, 23, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement watched as the truck stopped in the road on Lee Avenue, south of the Moore Street intersection. A man got into the vehicle from the driver’s side door and then continued to drive down the avenue. The officer subsequently pulled behind the vehicle to initiate a traffic stop, the report said.

Both the U-Haul and the patrol car turned onto Claire Drive, where it was apparent the driver was aware of the officer’s presence. He turned into a residence on Claire Drive before coming to a complete stop, the report said.

When asked for his license, the driver stated he lost it at a Walgreens while buying cigarettes. The officer checked his records while asking Morris to identify herself. She provided her information and admitted her license had been suspended, which dispatch confirmed, the report said.

Morris was ultimately arrested on charge of driving while license suspended with knowledge (third conviction). She was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
