A North Carolina woman was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after swerving all over the road with an almost-empty bottle of tequila in her vehicle.

An officer observed 30-year-old Allantae Sims stopped in a black Hyundai sedan at the intersection of North 14th Street and Griffin Road around 7:40 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

The vehicle was stopped partially in the travel lane on North 14th Street, causing oncoming traffic to slow down and swerve out of the Hyundai’s way. The intersection also had a sign stating vehicles could not make a right turn on red, but the Hyundai violated this statute. When the officer caught up for a traffic stop, the vehicle turned on its left and right turn signals multiple times, the report said.

It then swerved back and forth several times, touching both painted traffic lines. It eventually pulled into the Mobil gas station at 225 E North Blvd. and parked next to a gas pump, the report said.

After approaching Sims, the officer noticed her eyes were glassy, her speech slurred, and apparent vomit or spit on her left shoulder. She did not comply when told to exit the vehicle and became argumentative. Opening the driver’s side door revealed more vomit on the interior panel, the report said.

Sims was sitting on top of her seatbelt, another violation, and was subsequently pulled out of the vehicle. She immediately tensed her arm and became “dead weight” in the driver’s seat, which stopped the officer from completely pulling her out. He had to lock her wrist behind her back to get her to fall out onto the ground face down and handcuff her, the report said.

The officer asked Sims if she would participate in field sobriety exercises, but she appeared confused. She could not answer yes or no, even after being told the situation multiple times. She later refused to provide a breath sample, the report said.

A later inventory of her vehicle revealed a tall glass bottle of Milagro tequila, which was almost empty, the report said.

Sims was arrested on charges of DUI, refusal to submit to DUI testing and resist officer without violence. She was also issued citations for driver not belted and fail to obey traffic control device. After being booked at the Lake County Jail, she posted her $3,000 bond and was released.
