A Coleman man was arrested for falsely identifying himself during a traffic stop at Murphy USA.

An officer observed 32-year-old Derrell Patrick Harrison in the front passenger seat of a black Nissan sedan on South Street around 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

He recognized Harrison due to an active Sumter and Lake County warrants charging him with failure to appear for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, battery, domestic battery, petit theft, simple battery and simple assault, the report said.

The officer began following the vehicle and relayed the information to additional responding officers. A Fruitland Park officer was the closest and stopped the vehicle at Murphy USA, 1801 MLK Jr Blvd., the report said.

Harrison advised that he did not have an ID and instead told the officers a false name and birthdate. A record check yielded nothing, so they scanned his fingerprint to get his true identity, the report said.

He was subsequently arrested on charge of false ID to law enforcement officer. He was booked at the Lake County Jail without bond.
