James Daniel Leggett passed away on June 14th 2026.
He was born in Holmes County FL son of Cratie and Irene Leggett and sibling to Richard, Caroline, and Eugene. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Eugene.
His wife, Melba, and himself had a daughter named Lori who married Bruce. They gave him his grandchildren Timothy and Lindsey. Lindsey and her fiancée Hayden are scheduled to be married on July 3rd which would have made James a great grandad. He was able to meet his future great grandchildren and spend time with them before his passing. He loved them and he would have continued to love them in time to come.
James loved music; Playing drums in the church Service and piano at home, gospel was his go to, he was a man of God. James also loved camping with his family which he was able to thanks to the 43 years he dedicated to the Florida Telephone Company.
He Loved being with nature Fishing, bike riding, birdwatching, gardening, and “jookin’” (his term for hitting the town and thrifting.) Sports played a large part in his life, playing in the church softball team as a pitcher in his middle years. His favorite college team is the Gators and he spent a lot of time watching softball and football of all leagues.
He spent time in his later years volunteering with his wife at a food drive ran by their church. His time and efforts affected many people by helping them receive access to food.
He was a loving and caring man who was loved deeply. His passing will send wakes far and wide through the water of life. In lieu of flowers, pay it forward with random acts of kindness as he would.
Joy to God for the incredible life he gave him. Take photos and cherish the fleeting time to honor his life.
