A Grand Island man was arrested after allegedly yelling at a church camp neighbor and attempting to start a fight.

Deputies responded to a verbal dispute involving 48-year-old Jeremy Klingensmith at the Warren Willis Church Camp, 4991 Picciola Rd., Fruitland Park, at 8:20 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon making contact with Klingensmith and his neighbor, the two were separated. Law enforcement was leaving the scene when they heard the former yelling at his wife about the incident. She advised that she would be able to calm him down, and he appeared to be sitting outside talking with her as the deputies left the scene, the report said.

But the deputies were called back to the church camp for a possible physical altercation about an hour later. The manager explained that he was checking the camp when he observed Klingensmith screaming obscenities at another family. His wife was trying to calm him down and usher him back inside their unit, but he refused to go with her. He instead swung his arm around to get out of her hold, the report said.

Three other camp residents spoke with the manager, saying they had heard the disturbance and had come outside to see what was happening. The manager added that he would be working on evicting Klingensmith for his behavior and for disturbing several other neighbors, the report said.

A deputy then talked to Klingensmith’s wife. She stated that after the deputies left, the neighbors had returned to their unit. She spoke with the neighbor’s wife to apologize for the earlier incident while her husband sat outside their unit’s door, the report said.

Klingensmith was sitting on the bench near the road at the time, and he suddenly got up to start another argument. His wife tried to usher him back into their unit, to which he eventually listened. It never escalated to a physical altercation, but there was a lot of yelling, the report said.

The neighbor advised that he was sitting outside smoking a cigarette while his wife spoke with Klingensmith’s wife. He observed Klingensmith yelling and screaming obscenities from a bench, and when he got up to walk in his direction, the neighbor met him in the grass lot in front of the units. He told Klingensmith to let the previous incident rest and go inside, the report said.

Klingensmith instead continued to yell and scream. His wife tried to pull him back inside their unit, to which he grabbed her shoulders and shifted her out of his way. This happened twice until the neighbors just went inside their unit to get away from the argument, the report said.

A subsequent check of Klingensmith’s criminal history determined he pleaded no contest to a previous charge of disorderly conduct in 1998, the report said.

Klingensmith was ultimately arrested for breaching the peace. He was booked at Lake County Jail and released after posting $500 bond.
