A Leesburg man was arrested for the theft of $38 in clothes from Marshalls.

Christopher Scott Buehrer, 58, walked into Marshalls, located at 919 N 14th St., around 2:15 Sunday, June 7, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

Loss prevention watched as he selected a pair of black socks and an Eddie Bauer beard trimmer from the men’s department. He next picked up a brown Dockers wallet and put it under his arm. After walking to another aisle, he adjusted his black shoulder strap bag and stashed the items in it, the report said.

Buehrer then began to leave the store without paying for anything, prompting a confrontation with loss prevention. He placed all $38.49 worth in stolen merchandise on the ground before quickly leaving the area on foot. Officers later searched the area but did not find him, the report said.

It was not until Thursday afternoon that officers recognized Buehrer in 7-Eleven, located at 737 S 14th St. He denied stealing anything, even after being shown photos of himself taken from surveillance footage. He kept making statements about being willing to work and appeared to be trying to speak with a senior detective working on another theft case involving him, the report said.

A check of his criminal history determined he had multiple prior theft convictions from April 30, 2026, Sept. 30, 2025, and June 10, 2025, the report said.

Buehrer was arrested on charge of petit theft (two or more prior convictions) and booked at Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $2,500 bond.

He was also arrested in July 2025 for his involvement in two theft incidents in two days and in April 2025 for stealing from Rural King.
